Hank Williams Jr. was pretty much born to be a star, or at least expected to be after the early death of his father, Hank Williams, one of the most influential country singers of all time. He’s been a travelling musician since the age of eight and had a song in the top five of the Country charts at 15 years old. (His version of his dad’s famous “Long Gone Lonesome Blues”).

Even so, it wasn’t until after lots of struggle with legacy and drugs, and a literal fall off a mountain, that Hank Williams Jr. really made a name for himself. Then emerged the gems like “Whiskey Bent”, “Texas Women”, “Dixie On My Mind” and the Monday Night Football jam. And the Country Music Awards, the Grammy, the Emmy’s and a spot in the Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame. You feel us?

Looks like he did it right. And lucky for us, Hank Williams Jr. is coming to Caesars Atlantic City next week! Friday, July 19th to be exact. We got him to answer a few Q’s, too. Check it out, below.

Hank Williams Jr.

TAC: We’re so excited that you are coming to Caesars Atlantic City next Friday, especially since you only perform about 30 shows a year!

Hank Williams Jr.: I’m gonna tell you, I’ve got a fax machine in Montana, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee, and I’ve got a magic marker. They send in offers and I either put a red check that means yes and a black X that means no.  And, then I come to your town.  That’s the way I work. That’s the way I roll and my fans know that.

TAC: You’re currently on the Old School New Rules Tour and your latest album, Old School New Rules, was released last year. What do you like most about this album?

Hank Williams Jr.Old School, New Rules was really super.  Well I wrote nearly every song on there. Wrote ‘em on the iPad.

TAC: You also recently made a cameo in Kid Rock’s “Redneck Paradise” video! So cool! Tell us about it.

Get More:

Hank Williams Jr.: Bobby said I’m gonna make a video about what we do. I said ain’t nobody cares about fishing and turkey hunting. He said yeah, you might be surprised.  I was all for it because he had the song written “Redneck Paradise” and it’s just one of those things.  You turn around and BANG! Here’s the video with him coming out.  He is a very special friend.  It’s a great thing and it is the truth.

TAC: You have a career spanning over 40 years and just created your own record company, Bocephus Records, about 5 years ago. Why was this something you decided to do at that time?

Hank Williams Jr.: I know what’s going on in the music business.  Record companies are kind of over.  They’re taking parts of these young people’s merch, sales of shows.  That wouldn’t work too good for me.  My hats off to them.  They work hard.  I’m a blessed guy.  I’m not gonna do 100 shows. It works out between hunting and fishing. Three quarters of a million dollars in merch for 22 shows.  That’s wonderful. This country is split in half and everybody’s knows what half I’m on.

TAC: Can we expect another 40 + years of greatness from you?!

Hank Williams Jr.: That’s a good question.  Actually, I slowed down a real long time ago.  I did 220 shows in one year. It’s been since the late ’90s that I don’t go over 35 and it’s been 30 and under for a long time.  But, you know, I’m up in the morning, I’ve got 2 Labradors that are running around, I know how to run a tractor, I know how to run a trot line, I know how to skin a buck and I know how to bush hog and that’s what I do folks.  That’s just our lifestyle.  I love getting kids out there, getting their first deer, their first fish, shooting their rifle, shooting their skeet and watch their grin when they get that big turkey.  That’s my point in life. I love that.  That’s what I do.  It ain’t all about music.

Get your tickets for Hank Williams Jr. Friday, July 19th at Caesars! Show starts at 9! Don’t be late! Atlantic City concerts! Woo!
