Remember when we told you that the spaces on the board game MONOPOLY were named after Atlantic City street names? And then remember when we told you in the next sentence or so that there were some discrepancies here and there? Today we are here to tell you about these discrepancies.

Monopoly

It is true that MOST of the spaces represent a street in Atlantic City – Kentucky Avenue, Boardwalk, Pennsylvania Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, Park Place, Virginia Avenue, these are all true to AC, but about 5% of the game is not. Inventor Charles Darrow found himself in need of one more street name to complete the MONOPOLY board in 1930. Darrow stretched the boundaries of Atlantic City a bit and was reminded of a little area of Margate, NJ, Marven Gardins, which of course became Marvin Gardens on the popular game board.

Darrow had to fib one more time when he needed to fill the  final railroad space as there were only three railroad lines servicing Atlantic City in 1930. He decided to take Short Line, a bus company in town, and use it as his the fourth railroad line.

Bet ya didn’t know that when you woke up this morning! Don’t you feel like breaking out your MONOPOLY board now? We have one better for you!
