If you’ve been headed into Atlantic City for your next fun and relaxing stay at Caesars, Harrah’s Resort, or Bally’s, you may have noticed some huge¬†brown birds hanging out on a few of the billboards along the Atlantic City Expressway. However, these birds aren’t the typical pigeons and seagulls that you’ll find flapping around the shore, they are ospreys, and they’ve decided to build their lavish new shore homes on a couple local billboards this year!

You may be wondering what they’re doing here…

“Well, Why Are They Here?”

The osprey’s diet consists of 99% fish, so the fact that the billboards are so close to the bay and the ocean (two huge bodies of water), makes it the perfect place for them to live. It would be like if you only ate pizza, and lived on the roof of a pizzeria!

How long will they be here?

The nesting season of the osprey is from April 1 to August 31, so they’re here for the whole summer! New Jersey does not allow active nests to be relocated during that time either, so the billboards will stay exactly how they are until these feathered friends are done with their lovely Atlantic City vacation.

So while you may be thinking, “May 14th was weeks ago!” when you see the Tony Bennett billboard, just know that it’s there because the birds are huge fans of the legendary crooner… and all of the fish they can find near his giant face! Caesars Entertainment has shown in the past what big fans they are of environmental conservation, and giving a home to a protected species for the summer is no exception to that. Be sure to give them a wave when you’re on your way to your next stay at Caesars, Harrah’s, and Bally’s Atlantic City!
