The Harrah’s Foundation has donated $100,000 to the Clean the World Foundation to develop a soap recycling facility in Las Vegas.

The center will collect and sanitize soap, shampoos, conditioners and lotions from Vegas hotel-casinos and distribute the products to struggling families throughout the U.S. and more than 40 countries around the world.

The soap recycling facility, set to be up-and-running in 2011, will also provide employment for individuals from the Las Vegas Rescue Mission, a local nonprofit that provides food, shelter and counseling to the homeless and those in need.

Clean the World recycles soap for Harrah’s resorts in Vegas and improves the living conditions of millions while diverting waste from landfills.

Harrah’s has five Las Vegas hotels already participating in a soap collection program: Paris, Bally’s, Harrah’s, Imperial Palace and Caesars Palace. Paris and Bally’s alone have collected more than 2,000 pounds of soap (in about eight weeks). The program will include all the Las Vegas hotels in the Harrah’s Entertainment family within the next year.

Unused soaps and shampoos will be distributed among area homeless and women’s shelters.
