We have once again violated several security protocols by busting out an exclusive first look at two new, limited-time-only collectible Total Rewards cards set to become available at Vegas casinos around Jan. 21.

Total Rewards, the player loyalty program of Caesars Entertainment (formerly Harrah’s Entertainment), created the new cards in honor of the Lunar New Year, as well as a set of colorful traditions we kind of only marginally understand at this juncture.

The two cards commemorate the Year of the Rabbit (for the Chinese and Korean New Year) and the Year of the Cat (for the Vietnamese New Year).

According to Chinese tradition, 2011 is the Year of the Golden Rabbit, which begins on Feb. 3, 2011.

To make things interesting, we have learned the Korean New Year generally falls on the day of the second new moon after winter solstice, unless there is a intercalary eleventh or twelfth month in the lead-up to the New Year.

Oh, who are we kidding? We’re so lost.

For the Vietnamese, the New Year begins Feb. 2 (marking the arrival of spring) and kicks off the Year of the Cat. The Vietnamese New Year is called “Tet Nguyen Dan,” or more commonly just “Tet,” especially to its close friends.

Bonus Tet Nguyen Dan trivia we stole from the Interwebs: Tet Nguyen Dan translates as “Feast of the First Morning.”

We would provide you additional information about this fascinating subject, but we are a Las Vegas blog, not a socio-cultural anthropologist.

So, before our brains explode, we’ll just say that these collectible Total Rewards cards have been wildly popular in years past, and supplies will be limited, so make sure to ask for one at the Total Rewards Center at any Caesars Entertainment hotel after Jan. 21.

And happy New Year, all over again.
