Former ‘N Sync Member Joey Fatone’s Having a Blast

There are some who don’t take former members of “boy bands” too seriously. The good news is that Joey Fatone, alum of the spectacularly successful pop group ‘N Sync, doesn’t take himself too seriously, either.
The affable, multi-talented performer is doing a guest-hosting stint at The Price is Right Live show at Bally’s through Sep. 25, and from what we could see during our recent drop-in, he’s having an absolute blast hosting this real-time version of an American game show institution.
“The Price is Right” fans will recognize many of the classic games played during the quick-paced show at Bally’s. Prizes are given out fast-and-furious, with 50 or more winners in every show. In between the games onstage, audience member names are drawn at random and given 1,000 Reward Credits (find out more about Total Rewards player loyalty program) just to spice things up!
Quick-witted Joey Fatone truly seems to be enjoying the experience as much as his audience, and it’s probably not a bad thing that he gets to work with stunning models each day during his guest-hosting gig.
The sylphlike models have the arm gesture thing down pat, adding drama and flair even to the prizes that don’t automatically register as being flair-worthy (like the mechanical owl with a moving head one contestant said reminded her of a scene from “The Exorcist”).
Some aspects of the stage show vary from the TV show, of course. For example, one doesn’t get chosen as a contestant based on attire or excitement level in the live version. It’s completely random. Same goes for those chosen to be in the Showcase Showdown.
The Showcase Showdown itself has been tweaked a bit, too, for a non-network-TV-sized budget. Contestants still guess a price for the impressive prizes onstage (including a car), but if they win, they get a cruise (at least on the day we attended), not all the prizes. Although, if their guess is within $100 of the right price for the Showcase, they win the whole shebang.
Winning aspects of “The Price is Right Live” include hysterical, mid-show videos of the gaffs and other memorable moments from the Bob Barker-hosted TV series, and even unsuccessful bidders on “Contestant’s Row” get “The Price is Right” T-shirts just for playing.
A high point of the evening comes after the show when Joey Fatone and announcer David Ruprecht (former host of TV’s “Supermarket Sweep”), as well as the aforementioned sylphs-slash-models, hang out for photos and autographs with excited audience members.
Funniest line of the afternoon came during the post-show meet-and-greet when a longtime ‘N Sync fan said to Joey Fatone, “I love you, Joey. You were a big part of my life.” Without missing a beat, Fatone said, “Thank you. I was a big part of my life, too.”
Fatone has been taking full advantage of being in Las Vegas for his guest-hosting engagement. He recently dropped by Human Nature at Imperial Palace for some Motown magic.
