Backstreet’s Back, Alright: Backstreet Boys Show Vegas How It’s Done

Oh my God, they’re back again (brothers, sisters everybody sing!). We’re not surprised that after two decades, the Backstreet Boys still got it goin’ on. With a whopping $130 million in record sales, it’s no wonder they’re recognized as the best-selling boy band in history.

Last night, we channeled our inner fangirl, sang at the top of our lungs and danced throughout the entire set – with the occasional breaks to gather up the energy to dance some more. BSB took us back – waaay back – to the good ol’ days. We felt like teenagers all over again.

Their iconic hits stir up so many memories. We remember buying their CDs, cranking up the music in our room and blasting it in the car while driving to the mall. And don’t lie – we know you ripped a page or two from a teen magazine and plastered them in your room or locker! We bet certain songs remind you of your first great love. (All the warm and fuzzy feelings are coming back, aren’t they?)

Imagine experiencing all that feel-good nostalgia for 100 minutes straight. The Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life residency at AXIS inside Planet Hollywood is here for 20-plus shows, now through July 1, 2017. Yep. They’re going to be here for a good while.

The Backstreet Boys kicked off their 26-show residency at The AXIS inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino last night. The show is so popular, that tickets (for show dates March 4, 11 and 18) will be sold in The AXIS Theater’s upper level. This will be a first time these seats have been offered for a residency show. Say whaaat

Last night’s opening show reminded us of why we love BSB. Not only do they take us back to our teen years, but these boys can sing. They’re one of the few groups who go all out with catchy pop tunes one moment, then slow things down with smooth R&B slow jams the next. One minute they’re singing “Larger Than Life” and “Get Down (You’re The One For Me),” and then they give us soulful hits like “Darlin’” and “All I Have To Give.” We actually got a nice surprise as when BSB s sang “All I Have To Give” from the middle of the crowd. Swoon.

We heard all our favorites like the ones mentioned above, as well as “I’ll Never Break Your Heart,” “I Want It That Way,” “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” and of course, “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).” We also loved when they took time to talk to us. Nick Carter asked the ladies how many asked for a hall pass to spend the night with the Backstreet Boys. (The response was so loud, we’re sure all our guys back home heard it!)

We also loved their minimum costume changes and clean-cut looks. They’ve come a long way since their baggy pants and oversized sports jerseys. AJ McLean, however, takes the cake with his variety of hipster hats (pictured above).

We would have to say, besides the Backstreet Boys’ standout performance, the fans definitely made the show. The audience squealed throughout the evening. We’re going to be honest — we were right there with them. We must have seen a record number of different bachelorette groups. Another group had matching customized T-shirts. And there were hardcore man-fans out there. We even saw a guy wearing a RUN BSB shirt in the font styling of RUN DMC. Take a look at a few of these dedicated BSB fans:

Last night, more than 4,000 fans got their BSB fix. It’s time to get yours. Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life tickets start at $55. VIP packages and – wait for it – meet & greets are available.

We don’t see the BSB craze ending anytime soon. As long as you love them, they’ll be around for a long time, baby.

About The Author

I live for a crazy Vegas adventure, but not in ways you may think. Sure, our nightlife scene is all fun and dandy, but I love discovering all of the city's vegan options, relaxing in hotel rooms and seeing the best concerts - no matter how big or small the crowd may be. Since I've ditched the rain in Seattle two decades ago, I graduated from UNLV and covered Las Vegas entertainment articles for, the LA Times and our very own Total Vegas Blog. When I'm not writing, you'll find me spending time with my husband, toddler and two pets.
