The goofiest sports blooper of all time belongs to Jose Canseco, but hearing him give his side of the story, as part of the show “RENEGADES: Sports Rebels Unleashed,” is no mistake.

As Canseco tells it; he was out of position. The Bash Brother, known for his power at the plate, says he was always more comfortable in the batter’s box than in right field. But in 1993 in a game against Cleveland, out of position or not, a fly ball hit by Carlos Martinez bounced off his head and over the fence for a home run.

If you’ve seen the video it’s hard to fathom, but Canseco says he lost track of where he was in relation to the outfield wall and when he reached for the wall and stumbled, the ball careened off his head. The rest goes down in sports infamy.

That anecdote is just one of many shared by hell-raising sports stars Canseco, Jim McMahon, Terrell Owens and Jimmy King, in a new production perfect for the Vegas audience. King fills in for Owens Feb. 15 – 18, with Owens returning Feb. 22 through April 29.

Sports junkies and their enablers will enjoy this show. You don’t have to be able to explain the in-field fly rule to appreciate the drama and emotions on display.

Nothing is off the table for this bunch. You’ll hear stories of gruesome injuries, sexual encounters with jersey chasers and the emotional moments that defined their lives. Each rebel tells it like it is, takes audience questions and elicits a number of laughs.

The intimate setting of Cleopatra’s Barge at Caesars Palace makes it feel as if you’re in the locker room or on the team bus as the men open up and share some fantastic stories.

The hour and a half show is well worth the $60 starting ticket price, and if you’re lucky enough to snag a seat near the back then you may end up sitting right beside the stars themselves.

These guys might be tough on the outside, but when the layers are peeled back, they show us what motivates the best-of-the-best is the same thing that motivates regular Joes; hint: Her name starts with “M.” No, not Madonna. It’s Mom of course.

You’ll hear about the reasons behind why Jose Canseco took steroids and performance enhancing drugs, Jim McMahon’s thoughts on football legends Walter Payton and Mike Ditka (himself a bit of a sports rebel) and King’s recollection of fighting with fans.

But it doesn’t stop there. The past is just the beginning.

Yes, you’ll hear some of the most well-known stories in sports history from the players who lived through them, but you’ll also hear their takes on issues of the day such as youth sports (football shouldn’t be played until high school says McMahon), marijuana, professional sports in Las Vegas, rap and hip hop, presidential politics, fashion in sports, the #metoo movement and much more.

The show concludes with a roundtable question and answer period. Because the room is small and intimate, it’s the perfect opportunity to throw a hardball and get an honest answer. Audience questions during a recent show covered a wide range of topics from game fixing to performance enhanced male anatomy.

For die-hard fans who want to extend their experience, VIP guests are invited backstage after the show for a meet and greet and autograph session. Merchandise is available for purchase including balls, shirts and photos. But the real souvenir might just be the story of your brush with a Renegade.
