“Women need a reason to have sex. Men just need a place!”

When a show kicks off like that, you know you’re in for a wild ride. The title of “Sex Tips for Straight Women from a Gay Man,” the wildly interactive show at Paris Las Vegas, is quite a mouthful and might leave you wondering what exactly it is. Is it a self-help seminar? Is it your awkward grade school sex ed class, just on stage? Is it a raunchy male revue? After checking it out, I can honestly say, it’s some of the most fun you can have on the Vegas Strip with your clothes on.

This is a show where nothing’s inappropriate and nothing’s off the table. Heck, they’ll even give you tips for on the table, if that’s what you’re into. “Sex Tips” started out as a Broadway surprise smash hit before heading to its insanely appropriate destination in the center of the Las Vegas Strip, known for its risqué, uninhibited fun. On the eve of their first performance together, we sat down with the new cast to get their take on the show that’s over the top in all the best ways.

Lucky for “Sex Tips” audiences, new cast members “Vanderpump Rules” star Scheana Shay and recording artist and MTV star Chester Lockhart aren’t intimidated by much of anything, even sharing the lowdown on gettin’ down.

This show is bananas. Literally. It shouldn’t take your mind long to wander to just how that fruit might appear as a prop in a show like this. What you may not be able to deduce is the overall premise of the show, so here’s the 411: Shay plays a stuffy teaching fellow. Lockhart’s character is her complete opposite, a flamboyant book author with zero filter. He doles out advice to unleash her inner passions for the hunky stage assistant/sound guy, Stefan, while she moderates a book forum about his sexual manifesto.

New Cast, Who Dis?

Shay inherited her role from Playboy Playmate and “Girls Next Door” star Kendra Wilkinson. Shay said of her unique take on the role, “There will be a little bit of Scheana sass in it, in a professional way, because I am playing a senior teaching fellow so I’m not Scheana from West Hollywood.” The “Sex Tips” star also added, “My character is very nerdy, professional, quite frazzled, nervous, so it’s totally different from anything you’ve ever seen me do.”

Lockhart’s character, Dan Anderson, is the perfect playful foil to her uptight professor. Lockhart took over the role from “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” actor Jai Rodriguez. He quipped, “Jai is like everyone’s best friend and I am like everyone’s sassy best friend.” He noted, “I’m always supporting you and encouraging you to be your best self but maybe throwing a hint of shade along the way. So you’ve got to stay on your toes. And I think that’s why we have such a good relationship. We kind of egg each other on, which is great to see on stage.”

He’s right. Their blunt dynamic leads to more laugh-out-loud moments than you could even imagine, especially when it comes to audience participation. Shay noted, “We’re having a good time with it.” Audiences will too and lucky guests can even end up on stage and be in the show. Shay added you never know what you’re going to get because, “It’s very audience interactive, so based off of who is up on stage with him determines what comes out of Chester’s mouth.”

Shay, who rose to fame as a sultry server on the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” spin-off, “Vanderpump Rules,” went on to marry and divorce a costar from that show.

“I’ve had a lot of negative comments saying things like ‘you can’t even keep a man, why would we take tips from you?’” Shay said. “And I’m like, ‘I’m not the one giving them. I’m the one getting them so maybe I CAN keep one!’”

Expect tears, but the good kind

I literally watched people cry from laughter while seeing their spouses participate up on stage. Helping Lockhart’s character bring his book’s concepts to life will get you over any insecurities or performance anxieties. You’d be surprised how liberating it can be to snort over sexual subtext with a group of your new best friends in a Vegas theater.

Lockhart noted how this show really does have something or everyone. “Sex Tips” takes a tongue-in-cheek (and other places!) look at topics most people are eager to explore, whether they want to admit it or not. He said, “It appeals to so many different types of people. You look at the audience and you see older people, younger people, gay, straight, people from all over the world. It’s something that everyone can universally enjoy in an unexpected way. It’s something everyone is going to relate to at the end of the day. It’s super interactive and makes you feel like you are part of this experience together. You’re part of the show.”

Shay said audiences can expect to be, “laughing a lot,” just like she did when she first saw it and her abs hurt from cracking up. Shay let us in on a little secret from rehearsals. She said, “There’s a part where we bring up three people from the audience and I’m not going to be able to look at them because in rehearsals I’m just dying laughing but my character shouldn’t be laughing at anything so I’m just going to pick a person in the audience and stare at them because if not, I’ll break character and I can’t.”

Sex and Vegas: A perfect pairing

Lockhart’s not afraid of some snappy back-and-forth with the crowd. He said, “It’s all part of the fun. Everyone came to have their own version of fun, so we’ll just laugh it off and make it part of the show.”

In a town like Las Vegas where what happens here is supposed to stay here, “Sex Tips” breaks all the rules and lets you have the best possible souvenir with its titular take-home message nestled in a night of laughs.
