Harlequin, the company synonymous with women’s literature and romance, recently kicked off a fun publicity campaign, just in time for Valentine’s Day. The company filed for a U.S. patent for “The Essential Romantic Kiss.”

Find out more at the official Patent Your Kiss site.

The patent application outlines “a basic method by which two people can reciprocate their romantic feelings toward one another in a manner that deepens attachment, provides pleasure and promotes physical and emotional well-being.” Has there ever been a patent application more suited to Sin City?

Submit your idea for a “unique kiss” in the “Patent Your Kiss Contest,” and you might just get the chance to recreate it in Vegas on New Year’s Eve 2012.

One lucky winner will get a prize package featuring a three-night trip for two to Paris Las Vegas, including airfare. The kiss submission period ends Mar. 30. A winner will be chosen from the top 10 kisses with the most votes. Get the details.

Even celebs are getting into the act of submitting their favorite kisses. Currently, the most popular is “The Kim Kardashian Classic Sneak Kiss.” See more.

Harlequin has also made available the results of far-reaching survey about kissing practices. Some interesting items:

* One-in-three Americans have kissed a co-worker.

* Just 10% of people say they’d end a relationship when confronted with a partner who is a poor kisser. (Phew!)

* One-in-three men admit to having kissed someone off-limits, such as a friend’s significant other or spouse.

What’s your favorite spot to lock lips in Vegas? Maybe while dining at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant at Paris Las Vegas? Maybe in a Luv Tub Room at Imperial Palace? Maybe on the dance floor at Pure Nightclub inside Caesars Palace? Or how about astride a beer pong table at O’Sheas. Hey, it’s Vegas, baby.
