“What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” the award-winning Las Vegas tourism campaign catchphrase that made an audible splash around the world when it debuted in 2003, is still buzzing a decade later. Also referred to as “What happens here, stays here,” what started as a witty tagline that gave a permissive wink to those needing a carefree weekend of adult bingeing is still seared into the minds of both regular and prospective tourists.

But the city’s sprawling, expansive growth of the last decade has called for a needed re-launch of the clever campaign, and since it has been 10 years since it debuted, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and its renowned advertising agency, R&R Partners (the masterminds behind the slogan), have designed a new take on it: the Vegas Enabler, paying homage to those who help facilitate wildly memorable experiences.

The first of its three brand-new television ads debuted last week, beginning with “A History of Friendship,” a hilarious introduction to the idea of Vegas enablers: spontaneous friends that have talked us into making a plethora of decisions that are far from playing it safe, like going to Vegas. (A perfect example that comes to mind? Alan in “The Hangover,” when he lures his bachelor buddies on the roof of Caesars Palace for a pre-clubbing toast, unknowingly giving them roofies.) The additional two “Vegas Enabler” commercials will unroll through May.
