This blog doesn’t use the word “spectacular” lightly. And although we were aware the new Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace would be big, come to find out, it’s also going to be beautiful. You might even say spectacularly so.

The Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace, the hotel which has evolved into the epicenter of all things edible in Las Vegas, opens Sep. 11, 2012, and promises to win over guests not only with its expansive menu (more than 500 dishes in all), but also its striking interior design. We’ve got a preview!

Consider your whistle whetted. If that's a word.

The Bacchanal Buffet was designed by Super Potato, a Japanese firm. Yes, we asked why it’s called Super Potato. Apparently, the company’s founder, Takashi Sugimoto, has what’s described as “a potato head,” and his college nickname made its way to his design firm. (We are not making this up.)

Soon to be this blog's home away from home.

Keep in mind, the buffet is in the final stages of construction, so a “pardon our dust” disclaimer is in effect, but we thought you’d be interested in an early glimpse at what’s expected to be the biggest thing in Las Vegas buffets since the invention of the fork.

One of the more striking aspects of the new Bacchanal Buffet is that the three dining areas within the buffet each have a distinctive feel and theme. One area has a glass theme, another’s based on wood and the third is steel.

Steel the one. Because, see, Shania Twain starts a residency at Caesars soon. Nevermind.

Glass is the first and largest area within the Bacchanal Buffet, with chandeliers and colored glass as walls. The glass lets natural light flow in and lets guests take advantage of the amazing view of the hotel’s Garden of the Gods pool area. It’s a feast for all the senses, baby! Sorry about the “baby” thing. We got carried away a little.

The Bacchanal Buffet, keeping it glassy. OK, we'll stop now.

The wood-themed area has a private dining room, and features blocks of wood used to create patterns this blog would completely love to have in its own home if it were made of money.

How this blog is being so mature and not making a single "wood" joke, we'll never know.

The steel area uses re-purposed, weathered plates from factories and warehouses “to contrast old and new.” Look, you don’t have to know that to enjoy the place. Just eat.

Even without the finishing touches in place, you can already see the nine “restaurants” contained within the massive buffet taking shape.

For the greener among us, you’ll be pleased to hear the Bacchanal Buffet has natural, recycled and reclaimed material throughout. And we’re loving what they’ve done with the place!

The more you know about the design, the more there is to love. For example, in the wood-themed area (pictured below), light streams through openings in the wood installment above. The effect is intended to feel like sitting under a tree, with dappled light streaming across the tables. Feel free to impress your friends and win bar bets with that little tidbit.

Suddenly, we're big fans of dappled light. You go, dappling.

Here’s more about the buffet’s interior, by the numbers: The design includes 9,500 pieces of wood, 8,800 pieces of glass and 4,500 pieces of steel. The dining areas have seven different table styles, with 10 chair designs.

Collect all 10! Or at least sit in them. Just not all at once.

To further illustrate the scale of the Bacchanal Buffet, the decor will include 3,607 (yes, exactly) glass jars filled with spices and other goodies, and also on display will be more than 16,000 bowls, plates, glasses, jars and kitchen small wares.

Some of the myriad hooks from which cool stuff shall hang.

Yep, rest assured, this buffet will be anything but just another Las Vegas buffet. It’s going to be an experience! Next time, we talk more about the real star of the show at the Bacchanal Buffet, the food.

Oh, like we weren't going to include a food photo. Do you know this blog at all?
