A Parrothead Moment on the Strip

Margaritaville at Flamingo Las Vegas has long been known as a mecca for “parrotheads” around the world. These die-hard fans of singer Jimmy Buffett gather to enjoy over-sized food portions, frosty beverages (including, oh, margaritas) and ribald tales of the “one that got away.”

What would a parrothead paradise be without actual parrots? Vegas has got you covered.

We think these are macaws. We would confirm that, but honestly, we are a Las Vegas blog, not an ornithologist.

Jim the parrot photo guy and his team work the Strip outside Margaritaville, providing photo ops for visitors. Sure, you might not have a souvenir photo taken with parrots back home, but this is Vegas. You probably wouldn’t be caught dead drinking 80 ounces of high-octane hooch from a giant plastic guitar back home either, right? (Oh, and they sell those at Rockhouse outside Imperial Palace, by the way.)

Get into the spirit of being on the Strip, already!

Jim is the tall, featherless one.

Holding the birds is free, but no photos, please. Let the pros handle that. Get prints for $14, or two for $20. The more you get, the less they cost. Yay, Capitalism!

Yes, you've had a lot to drink, but that is, in fact, an upside-down parrot.

Parrot photos are available 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week.

Tell Jim or one of his helpful team members that the Pulse of Vegas blog sent you, and he’ll work out a special deal for your prints. We didn’t get any details on this “offer,” but we still kind of like people talking about us.

Daniel's day job is as a perch. And photographer, but mostly that first thing.

Bonus factoid: Young fans of Jimmy Buffett are called “parakeets.”

Read more about macaws, because honestly, what else do you have to do? Work? Please!

During this photo, there was a very real danger of this blog being pecked to death.

Stop by and let Jim and his team give you the bird the next time you’re at Margaritaville!
