Today’s Las Vegas discovery is part show, part attraction, part restaurant, but all revelation. It’s IcePan!

IcePan at Harrah’s Las Vegas looks like just about any other ice cream shop, but it’s anything but ordinary. For starters, the ice cream is made from scratch, right before your eyes. The whole process takes about two minutes, and results in what this blog conservatively estimates is the best ice cream in the known universe. No joke.

A visit to IcePan isn't just about ice cream, it's an event.

The ice cream-making process at IcePan is a wonder to behold. The ice cream ingredients are mixed on the spot, and poured into pans kept at 35-degrees below zero. Then, with lightning-fast ninja moves, store owners Andy and Angela Sul turn the liquid into a creamy solid, complete with an array of mix-ins and toppings.

Yes, we captured some video, because seeing is believing at IcePan.

The completely charming Andy and Angela have some serious ice cream-making skills, and honestly, watching them work is like attending one of the most entertaining shows in town. It’s akin to the Benihana experience, but, y’know, creamier.

The appeal of IcePan goes beyond its unique method of creation. The ice cream contains no preservatives, sodium or artificial coloring. And no processed sugar! Choose from non-fat, low-fat, whole milk and organic soymilk options. (Hear that, all you lactose intolerant folks? Ice cream heaven! IcePan can also whip up ice cream safe for those with diabetes.)

Perhaps the best news about IcePan ice cream is that it is significantly lower in calories than regular ice cream. Example: Non-fat vanilla ice cream at IcePan has about 250 calories per serving. The equivalent portion of regular, non-fat ice cream would be 600 calories or more.

Andy Sul says people come from around the world to enjoy the spectacle that is IcePan, and once they arrive in Vegas, they often come back every day during their visit. (Sometimes, several times a day.) Only three other IcePans exist, two in Japan and one in West Hollywood, California.

IcePan is more than worth a visit, and we predict it’ll quickly become a non-negotiable item on your list of things to do in Las Vegas. In fact, we should be blogging less and IcePanning more. See ya at Harrah’s.
