So you’re over the whole dance-until-dawn nightclub scene, but you still love dressing up and enjoying a night out on the town. You’re all about having a good time, but know how to keep it classy and low key. Planning a trip in 2018? Here are 8 things to do in Vegas in your 40s.

Bound at The Cromwell - Las Vegas bars for 40 somethings

Bound is beautiful at The Cromwell

If FIZZ is up your alley, you’re in luck: Bound is right down the boulevard. Located inside The Cromwell, Bound is more than just your average lobby bar. You’ll want to have a drink here, even if you’re not checking into this hotel. The curtains surrounding the bar give it an exclusive feel, while the plush seating takes your comfort level up a notch. Bound is the perfect spot to take your girlfriends (or special someone) and have a deep conservation over a tasty cocktail. We love Bound’s signature breakfast gin-based martini, topped with orange marmalade. You can get in touch with your inner bunny and order The Bunny Bubbles — a sweet combination of champagne, raspberry puree and pomegranate.

Voodoo Rooftop Night Club & Lounge - Rio All Suites Hotel & Casino - Las Vegas bars for 40 somethings

Fall in the spell of VooDoo Nightclub & Lounge

Venture off the Strip (but not too far) and enjoy a night at VooDoo Rooftop Nightclub & Lounge at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Located 51 stories high, you’ll witness great views from this Vegas nightclub’s rooftop patio. The atmosphere is swanky, and we love how it’s not shoulder-to-shoulder packed with a much younger crowd. If you want to chill but still get your groove on, this is the place. Make a statement and order the Witch Doctor, a rum cocktail topped with dry ice. Plus, it’ll give you an excuse to visit the bar: The flair bartenders add the perfect touch to VooDoo Nightclub’s unique vibe. If you’re looking for somewhere to dine before your dance-all-night marathon, the steakhouse is only a staircase away.

Beer Park at the Paris Las Vegas - Bars for 40 somethings

Have a brewski at Beer Park

OK, so maybe the glitzy Vegas nightlife isn’t your scene. But you still want to have a good time, paired with an equally good buzz. We hear you. Head to Beer Park at Paris Las Vegas and choose from more than 100 draft, can and bottle beer selections, including 36 beers on tap and the bar’s signature Bloody Mary. Order your favorite, have a seat at one of the bar’s picnic tables and people-watch from the bar’s rooftop patio. This is a perfect outing — night or day — if you want to do something less crazy. If you’re hungry, Beer Park has barbecue favorites like burgers, brisket, sausages and ribs. Picnic in the heart of the Strip? We can dig it.

Giada at The Cromwell - Things to do in Vegas in your 40s

Dine at GIADA

You can enjoy fine Italian dining anywhere, but GIADA at The Cromwell offers standout Italian dishes with a refreshing California flair. We swear by the lemon and basil spaghetti dish and the vegan-friendly mushroom arancini appetizer. We don’t have to win you over with food descriptions. As soon as you walk in, the aroma of the antipasto bar is all the convincing you’ll need. Whether you’re here for lunch or dinner, the views from the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling retractable windows are phenomenal. With GIADA’s center Strip location, you’ll enjoy your meal while admiring the Bellagio fountains. We’re crazy about the restaurant’s natural lighting and how it feels like a warm, welcoming home instead of a stuffy, old-fashioned restaurant.

Hottest Las Vegas show Jennifer Lopez: "All I Have"

Dance with JLo

If you’ve been a fan of Jennifer Lopez since her Fly Girl days on “In Living Color,” then you know what’s up. JLo’s still got all her hot dance moves and she proves it in her hit show, JENNIFER LOPEZ: ALL I HAVE at Zappos Theater inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. She draws inspiration from her music videos and incorporates them all on stage. The street art in “I’m Real” and the spectacular light show of “Waiting for Tonight” are a couple of our personal favorites. We know you’ll be dancing out of your seat by the end of the night. Yes, even all you shy ones out there. (We like to call that the JLo effect.)

Indulge in a luxury spa treatment - things to do in Vegas in your 40s

Indulge in a spa treatment

You’ve come to Vegas for an exciting weekend, but you need to squeeze in some R&R too. You’ll love the intimate feel of the Rio Spa. The Vegas desert shows no mercy to your skin, so we highly recommend the moisturizing peach ginger margarita body wrap. This treatment starts with a ginger lime exfoliation. After you rinse off, your spa therapist will apply a firming peach cactus serum and wrap your body to activate the product. During this time, you’ll enjoy a pressure point facial massage. The treatment ends with a warm agave nectar oil application, which locks in all of the moisture. We love the soothing effects of this treatment. Plus, it smells absolutely delicious. Fun fact: This treatment is inspired by the peach ginger margarita at Guy Fieri’s restaurant El Burro Burracho, located right next door. We say treat yourself to both!

Backstreet Boys at the Zappos Theater inside Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Backstreet’s back, alright! Photo by Denise Truscello.

get down with the backstreet boys

The Backstreet Boys will never break your heart because they give one heck of a performance. We got the chance to see Vegas’ Larger Than Life resident show on opening night. Fans went crazy as the Backstreet Boys sang hit after hit, including our favorites “All I Have To Give,” “You’re The One For Me (Get Down),” “Darlin’,” “I’ll Never Break Your Heart” and of course, “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”

It may have been two decades since their baggy jeans and oversized jersey days, but they’ve still got their dance moves (and vocals) on lock. We must say that their fashion game is a lot cleaner and AJ’s hat game (pictured above) is on point. They’re at Zappos Theater inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino until July 1, 2017. That gives you have plenty of time to warm up your vocal chords and reminisce about the good ol’ days of all-night phone convos with BSB CDs playing in the background.

Absinthe at Caesars Palace - Things to do in Vegas in your 40s

Have some Absinthe

We’re not talking about that strong and flowery alcoholic drink. We’re talking about the racy and naughty Vegas show, ABSINTHE at Caesars Palace. Located in the white tent just outside of the hotel lobby, it combines burlesque, raunchy comedy, acrobatics and circus acts — all in 90 minutes. ABSINTHE host Gazillionaire’s lewdness might make you wince a bit, but he’s downright hilarious so you’ll get over it. We love the tap dance twins from Compton (Sean and John Scott) and Melody Sweets, the gorgeous singer and burlesque dancer who always sweeps us off our feet. We love how you get a little taste of everything, and that’s what makes ABSINTHE such a stand-out production on the Strip.

Forty and fabulous is the best. You savor each moment, make the most of it and have right amount of the fun without going overboard. Your wild child days are behind you, but you’ve still got what it takes to be the life of the party. That’s why Vegas loves you. About The Author

I live for a crazy Vegas adventure, but not in ways you may think. Sure, our nightlife scene is all fun and dandy, but I love hitting up all the city's vegan spots, having staycations and catching shows by my favorite musical acts. Since I've ditched rainy Seattle 20+ years ago, I graduated from UNLV and covered Las Vegas hotel and entertainment articles for, the LA Times, Frommer's and our very own Total Vegas Blog. When I'm not writing, you'll find me hanging with my two girls, along with our shih-tzu and tiger cat.

OMG, if this is how 40 is to act in vegas….kill me. I’m not going to go down like this! I may as well have been reading how to party when you’re 60 in vegas!
I may not want the elbow to elbow of the clubs, but that’s why I have the funds to enjoy the VIP table service that I couldn’t back then! This ain’t mom & dad’s money i’m using kiddies.
Work hard, play hard no matter how old you are!
