Around The Empire: Summer In The City

THE BOARDWALK HEATS UP

Isn’t it time to visit Atlantic City again? The quaint beach town has undergone some major changes, adding new restaurants and spending $3 million to upgrade the pool complex and $30 million to renovate the Bayview Tower at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City. So this year, when the summer heats up, head to sun city.

STAY& PLAY

Rest your head in one of the 450 renovated Bayview Tower rooms and suites at Harrah’s, or seek out a sleek and modern Jubilee room at Bally’s Atlantic City. Want to stretch out? Then choose a spacious suite at Caesars Atlantic City. Once you settle in, take the plunge at The Pool at Harrah’s — an indoor, domed retreat with luxe cabanas, a state-of-the-art sound system and top deejays and entertainment to keep the party going. Those who need some quiet time can relax with a massage at either the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon & Spa or Qua Baths and Spa.

WHERE TO DINE

With his bleached-blond spiky hair and penchant for Hawaiian shirts, you almost expect to see Guy Fieri walking the board- walk. But if you don’t spot the Food Network chef, fear not: You can still opt for some surf and turf at his namesake restaurant, Guy Fieri’s Chophouse at Bally’s.

Dining hotspots at Caesars Atlantic City include Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill, the award-winning Nero’s Italian Steakhouse and the recently-debuted Betty’s Back Room — Atlantic City’s best kept secret with awe-inspiring ocean views. You can also find Chef Stephen Starr’s ode to Pan-Asian cuisine, Buddakan, where diners share plates under the gaze of a gigantic golden Buddha in a restaurant that resembles an ancient Chinese village. Meanwhile, Harrah’s is adding a couple new restaurants to a roster that already includes Martorano’s. Veracruz is a casual-chic Spanish-Mexican restaurant with a tapas-style menu and signature margaritas; AC Burger Company is the city’s premier spot for burgers, bites and ballgames, and Coastal Craft is paring its extensive craft- beer menu with classic American fare.
