Jeff Dunham's Las Vegas comedy show coming to Caesars Palace

Wisecracking smart alecks are taking over Las Vegas once again. What’s happening with this new batch of standups reminds us of the scene a decade ago, when the city was — as we dubbed it then — The Comic Strip. Back in 2006, Chris Rock, Jimmy Kimmel, Bill Maher, Louis C.K., Ray Romano, Whoopi Goldberg and Sarah Silverman popped into town for the Comic Relief benefit for Hurricane Katrina victims. And The Comedy Festival started its impressive four-year run (2006–09) at The Colosseum.

Now, the latest acts have comedy lovers in Las Vegas in tears, laughing. Two  veteran funny guys, Steve   Martin and Martin Short, who famously starred together  in  Three  Amigos and the Father of the Bride films, are reuniting for what they’re self deprecatingly calling “An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life.” The Martin & Short team invades the home of Jerry Seinfeld, The Colosseum’s longtime resident comic, April 9 and July 23. Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham will appear on the Caesars Palace stage through September with his crate- load of kooky characters — Achmed, Peanut and grumpy old Walter among the — for the “Perfectly Unbalanced” series of shows. Jim Gaffigan also stops by The Colosseum to drop one-liners May 6 – 7 on his “Fully Dressed” tour.

Over at Harrah’s Las Vegas, Last Comic Standing season one’s runner-up, comedian Ralphie May, is making “No Apologies.” In fact, the edgy comic revels in shocking audiences with his self-described “dirty, irreverent, lovable comedy,” a mix of uncensored takes on everything from race and politics to his own family. Another TV star, mime comic Tape Face, who reached the finals of last season’s America’s Got Talent, just kicked off a run at Flamingo Las Vegas, while Def Comedy Jam funnyman Eddie Griffin is still tearing it up at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. And mad plaid jokester Mac King continues his quirky and kid-friendly comedy (think goldfish magically appearing out of nowhere) at Harrah’s.

On the shadier, more adult side, Paris Las Vegas hypnotist Anthony Cools puts audiences under his spell for some truly sinful fun as he taps into their not-safe-for-work subconscious. And if you’re looking for another wild and outlandish production that provides both shock and awe, ABSINTHE is the answer. This Caesars Palace show combines acrobatics, music and brash comedy from the Gazillionaire and his hilarious no-nonsense sidekicks.
