The Colosseum: 15th Anniversary 2003 – 2018

Designed and built exclusively for Céline Dion and the premiere of A New Day…, The Colosseum at Caesars Palace forever changed the landscape of entertainment in Las Vegas. The goal in constructing the venue was to double the capacity of the typical showroom of the time, while still offering an intimate experience. The result: a 4,298-seat concert hall, where no seat is farther than 120 feet from the stage.

“The main idea was to give a house for Céline to feel comfortable to sing in every night and develop a strong relationship with her audience,” says Patrick Bergé, president of Canadian-based Scéno Plus, architects of The Colosseum. “The most important criteria were the acoustics, the sight lines and the proximity with the audience.”

Jason Gastwirth, President of Entertainment for Caesars Entertainment, points to how Céline’s success laid the framework for other Las Vegas resorts looking to copy the headliner model.

“The Colosseum can be credited for the magic formula of presenting iconic resident artists in rotation with top-notch touring performers,” he explains. “With its world-class sound, lights and video, along with a luxurious environment, artists are able to engage with audiences in a unique way that differentiates this experience from touring shows in larger venues.”

“Back in 2003, when I began performing in this newly built theater, little did we know we were going to reach such an incredible number of shows.”
